Travelers entering India required to complete a seven day home quarantine as of Tuesday.
This is a precautionary step India has implemented in order to control the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant of Covid-19, Foreign Ministry said.
After completing the mandatory quarantine, a PCR test has to be done on the eighth day. Travellers will be able to go into the public once the PCR test gives a negative result only. The results will have to be uploaded onto the "Air Suadive" website online.
According to the foreign ministry, children under the age of five will not be required to take a PCR test after the mandatory quarantine if they do not show any symptoms.
Additionally, two percent of the passengers from all flights entering India will be tested for Covid at the airport as well.
As per the current rules, all travellers will have to provide a negative PCR result taken 72 days prior to entering India, along with travel details regarding the countries visited in the past 14 days as well.
The ministry requests travellers to thoroughly check travel regulations now that they are changing as they have changed.
They also implore Maldivians only to make necessary international trips only, as Covid appears to be spreading at high rates globally due to the Omicron variant.
