Corporate Scolarship applications to open in January

The Ministry of Higher Education revealed that the application window for the Corporate Scholarship scheme will be opened in January 2020.

Under the scheme, launched on October 21, state companies and private firms will seek to cover the remaining cost on partial scholarships awarded by foreign universities.

The Higher Education Ministry carries the responsibility of selecting students from among the applicants to receive the scholarships. Once chosen, the student will enter into an agreement with the company funding their education. As per the ministry, students will be guaranteed jobs under these agreements.

A total of 12 state-owned companies and private firms have joined the Corporate Scholarship scheme. State owned enterprises which joined the scheme are the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Dhiraagu, State Electric Company (STELCO), Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), State Trading Organization (STO) and Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL).

Private companies which joined the scheme include TreeTop Hospital, ADK Hospital, Crown and Champa Resorts, Maldives Islamic Bank and Ooredoo Maldives.

The Ministry previously stated that over 100 scholarships would be provided annually after the signing of several agreements.
