Pres Solih calls scholarship receivers to make development contributions

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Thursday, stated that the objective of government scholarships would be achieved once students begin contributing to national development.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony of the President's Award and High Achievers Scholarship for GCE A-level top achievers of 2018, President Solih also reminded students of their patriotic duty, emphasizing the role they played in developing Maldives.

Furthermore, the president stated that government policy focused on human development to attain changes desired by the Maldivian people and highlighted the importance of educational policy in this regard.

President Solih also shed light on recent policy changes regarding the High Achievers Scholarship including the removal of restrictions on areas and locations of study. As per the new policy, students can opt to complete courses in any field of study from a wide range of countries starting from 2019.

As a result of the changes, scholarship holders will receive the advantage of choosing from an additional 36 countries worldwide including countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The president explained that policy changes were implemented for the benefit of the Maldivian youth population.
