Maldives Hajj Corporation has cautioned people to be on alert as they have noticed increasing numbers of scam calls being reported where the scammers claim to represent the corporation calling to confirm hajj slots.

The corporation said that scammers are making this false claim and convincing individuals to deposit money into personal accounts.

In the instance that any payments have to be made to the corporation, they said that the only bank account they use for the purposes is one registered under the name of 'Maldives Hajj Corporation'. They confirmed that the corporation would not, under any circumstances, instruct payments to be sent to a private account of any individual.

Scam cases have been on the rise in the Maldives in recent months.

Just last week, a woman in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Villin'gili was made to pay MVR 200,000 to scammers after they posed fraudulently as HDC and convinced her she was receiving a flat.
