Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday decided to task the Supreme Court (SC) Judge Abdulla Areef with running the apex court (SC).
The decision came after SC's Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Didi was suspended due to an ongoing investigation by JSC. Additionally, JSC decided to put forth a motion to the Parliament for Judge Didi's dismissal.
Currently, multiple Judges of SC are being investigated by the judicial watchdog.
According to a statement released by JSC, the decision to take Judge Areef with Supreme Court was made during the commission meeting held on Wednesday.
Prior to this, Judge Areef handed in his resignation for his post as JSC President, without stating any specific reason.
After which, JSC appointed Thulhaadhoo MP and the parliamentary representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Hisaan Hussain as the President of JSC. This marks the first time the post is being filled by a female and a commission member who is not a top court judge.
