Maldivian hajj pilgrim suffers heart attack

Minister Shaheem said that the condition of the Maldivian pilgrim who suffered a heart attack is improving and is being closely monitored.

A Maldivian pilgrim who traveled to the Islamic holy city of Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage has suffered a heart attack and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, speaking to the press at Velana International Airport before departing for Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, announced that a Maldivian pilgrim had suffered a heart attack and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

He added that the condition of the person is improving.

"The person's family has been contacted. The Ministry, Hajj Corporation, and Hajj Mission are closely monitoring his condition," the Minister added.

Minister Shaheem said that the Maldives Hajj Corporation has a special team of doctors attending to the pilgrims accompanying them. Additionally, a special clinic is set up at the hotel where the pilgrims are staying.

The last group of Maldivian Hajj pilgrims, consisting of 150 people, departed for Saudi Arabia today. This year, the Maldives received a Hajj quota of 1,150 pilgrims.
