The President's trip displays a bond of brotherhood: Shaheem

Minister Shaheem stated that the President's trip is showing a bond of brotherhood and the warm welcome that awaited the President upon his arrival to Saudi Arabia was equal to that of an official visit. The delegation was received by Crown Prince of Madinah.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the ongoing trip of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and his wife, the first lady Sajidha Mohamed to Saudi Arabia is displaying a bond of brotherhood between the two countries and that the Saudis are presenting the highest level of hospitability during this trip.

The President, his wife and officials of the accompanying delegation were welcomed into the country upon their arrival yesterday by the Crown Prince of Madinah, Salman bin Sultan bin Abdul Azeez Al Saud.

Minister Shaheem, who is presently accompanying President Muizzu on his Umrah trip explained that this was in conformity of the Saudi custom where Saudi leaders head the receival of leaders of other states upon their arrival to Madinah.

"Although this is not an official trip, Madinah had prepared the highest level of welcome. Madinah had given a red carpet welcome to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. They are presenting a welcome and hospitality that equals that of an official trip," said the Minister.

The President and his wife had departed for their trip to Saudi Arabia on a dedicated jet sent by the Saudi government. The President's Office had announced that this trip is undertaken with the gracious hospitality extended by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

While this marks the first Umrah performed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu since he had assumed his role of President of the Republic on November 17 last year, this is also the first presidential trip to the country of Saudi Arabia since he assumed office.

The President visited the Mosque of the Prophet, Masjid al-Nabawi during his trip today and also met with Maldivian students residing in the country. He had further engaged in a feast hosted by the Crown Prince of Madinah in honor of him as well. President Muizzu is set to depart to Mecca to perform Umrah at a time tomorrow.

Islamic Minister Shaheem remarked that this government is giving special precedence to fortify relations between Maldives and Saudi Arabia. While a special program to train Imams is scheduled to take off this month, Mihaaru reported that an economic delegation of Saudi Arabia is also expected to pay a visit to Maldives within the month.
