Opposition calls for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to resign stating he had been unable to deliver on his promises while responding to his Presidential Address.
As per the parliament guidelines, opposition will have to respond to the Presidential Address. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih gave his address in February, on the first session of the new term.
Minority Leader and Representative for Eydhafushi constituency in the parliament Ahmed Saleem said on Wednesday that the President failed to express the current state of affairs of the nation in addition to ways to overcome obstacles. These are things the President is required to accomplish during his address.
Saleem said the President's address was filled with directionless statements that would not be achievable.
"He gave a political address in 2022 in the name of a presidential address, filled with aimless, imaginary, and empty words. It is irresponsible," Saleem said.
Saleem noted that the administration is not doing enough work to tackle the rising of anti-Islamic thoughts within the nation.
He accused the government of influencing the court and the judiciary, in addition to accusing them of interfering with former President Abdulla Yameen's trials as well.
Other points opposition raised included failure to investigate the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Corruption, the presence of Indian military personnel in Maldives, lack of further development in Hulhumale', as well.
Saleem concluded by calling for the resignation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to protect the religion and the independence of the Maldives.
