A man has been arrested under suspicions of stealing fans from the Eid Mosque located in Male'. The 41 year old man has been remanded for 15 days following his summon to court yesterday.
Police stated today that a 41 year old man has been arrested under suspicions of stealing fans from the Eid Mosque located in Male' City.
Police said that the man was remanded in custody for 15 days following his summon to the court yesterday.
Male' City Council, the institution tasked with managing mosques, has expressed concerns over the escalating number of theft from mosques on several occasions. In their most recent social media post addressing these incidents, the council stated that strict action must be enforced against those who rob and damage property at mosques as well as those who try to damage its sacredness.
Police had also released footage of a man suspected to have stolen fans from the Masjid Al-Taqwa, situated on an inner lane off Kalhuhuraa Magu in April. Seven fans were stolen from the mosque over the span of three nights and the man, aged 31 years was later arrested by the police.
Police said at the time that the man had also robbed fans from other mosques and that they were located later after they were sold.
