Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has stated that they will be unable to hold any tournaments as day to day work has been stalled due to Sunday's police raid on the premises and seizure of some items.
FAM stated that "a large number of documents and some items necessary for use in a work environment" were seized by the police for their investigation into allegations of FAM leaders misappropriating funds received from FIFA and AFC.
"This has brought to a halt the day to day work that is conducted in this office. We regret to inform you that it is impossible to proceed with conducting Football League and other planned tournaments under these circumstances," a statement FAM released on Thursday reads.
FAM said that they believed their topmost responsibility at the moment is to cooperate with the police investigation. They appealed to the police to expedite the investigation.
Prior to this statement announcing cancellation of tournaments, FAM had previously announced that Dhivehi Premier League would commence on Saturday. Several participating teams have also begun practices for the Second Division Football Tournament tabled to be held in November.
