Mina Investment suspended over accident at Male' port

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), on Friday, suspended cargo and freight company Mina Investment over an accident at Male' port, which left an employee of the company severely injured.

The 28-year-old working in the clearance group of Mina Investment was pinned under a carpet roll that fell on him while he was loading a boat with a crane.

He was immediately taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where he underwent surgery for the wounds he sustained in the accident. The employee is currently admitted at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

MPL revealed that the port's Accident and Investigation Committee is currently looking into the matter. According to MPL, Mina Investment and the MPL staff members involved in the operation have been suspended till the investigation concludes.

The port iterated that MPL is putting in a lot of effort to ensure the safety of protection of workers during the operations that take place at Male' Commercial Harbour.

Just last month, a man succumbed to injuries sustained in a similar accident at the harbour. The individual, who was pinned under a falling glass pallet died nine days later while under treatment at IGMH ICU.
