The President's Office no longer allows any visitors besides Cabinet Ministers to carry phones on to their premises.

Communication Minister at the President's Office Ibrahim Khaleel said today that this rule has been in effect for over two months now under a new security protocol.

This change came to the attention of the media today when, attending a media briefing by Spokesperson Heena Waleed at the President's Office this morning, they were asked to leave their phones at the entrance.

After media raised concerns regarding this order, the President's Office allowed them to carry their phones in today. The authorization was granted based on the fact that media had not been explicitly informed of this change ahead of time.

However, they have been notified that in future, they, too, would not be allowed to bring in phones on to the premises of the President's Office.

Khaleel clarified that this rule is not only applicable to media, but to all visitors to the President's Office besides Cabinet Ministers. Besides them, only employees working at the offices are allowed to carry in phones.

Mihaaru reports that while Cabinet Ministers are allowed to carry in phones, other State and government officials, including Managing Directors of State Owned Enterprises are also prohibited from entering the President's Office with their phones.
