Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said it is receiving multiple complaints related to the Gedhoruveriya social housing scheme, and is looking into the matter to see if a fast-track solution was required.

After the permanent list of the housing scheme was publicized on Saturday, November 5, highlighting the applicants eligible for the 4,000 units in development in Hulhumale', several members of the public gathered at the premises of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) to voice their concerns.

Meanwhile, ACC has said it is receiving multiple complaints related to the publicized housing list, and is currently investigating if there is any requirement to take immediate action.

Over 20,000 people applied for the social housing scheme announced by the current government, out of which 13,000 were held eligible.

While the government announced all eligible applicants will receive housing, it said priority in issuing registry will be given to the recipients of the 4,000 units that are in development currently.

Applicants with scores of 76 points and above were eligible for three-bedroom units while applicants with scores of 73 points and above were eligible for two-bedroom units, of the 4,000 housing units.

The units are distributed into 32 towers each with an elevation of 18 floors, and eight apartments on each floor. Fahi-Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) the company funding the housing initiative, earlier reported that construction of six towers out of the 32 were reaching completion. FDC promised to install utility services and lifts and fully conclude the six towers before 2023 end.
