Police have intercepted two small trucks carrying expatriate labourers yesterday for jamming in a large number of persons into the covered truck bed, far over capacity.
Recently, videos have been circulating on social media as well showing an extremely high number of expatriates being transported confined in crowded small, covered pick up trucks.
Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan responded to those sharing the video with the police and said on Thursday that it is a clear violation of the law, and assured that police would be more vigilant about such issues.
In a post on social media X yesterday, Shifan announced that two trucks carrying expatriate workers in this manner had been intercepted on the Sinamale' Bridge.
One of these vehicles were impounded, and drivers of both vehicles had their driving licenses seized.
Police said that after receiving reports regarding the issue, they are currently conducting related investigations.
In addition to this, individuals driving on the highway without a valid license, as well as an unregistered vehicle with fraudulent license plates were also reported to Police on Friday.
