The condition of the two people who were buried in a pit while installing the sewerage system in Hithadhoo, Addu city, are in stable condition, according to FENAKA Corporation's Addu branch.
Director of the branch, Mohamed Althaf, quoted doctors at Addu Equatorial Hospital as saying that one of the two victims sustained two rib fractures and is currently under observation in the Intensive Care Unit.
"He will have a full scan today," Althaf said of the 40 year old's condition.
The second victim, a 50 year old male, was buried in a four-foot pit dug near the former Cress Garden restaurant in Hithadhoo.
Althaf said the man suffered from body pain and no other injuries were found.
The hospital said that the condition of the two victims are stable and the 50 year old man will be released today.
According to Althaf, the workers were wearing safety boots and taking necessary precautions.
The two men were taken to hospital less than 10 minutes after the incident took place. Althaf said the two were buried when the sides of the pit caved in.
“I left the hospital last night after the doctors assured both were stable,” Althaf said.
