Former President Abdulla Yameen has requested the people of Addu City to give him another shot at presidency, affirming new developmental initiatives for the city.
Yameen, who has already launched his campaigning for 2023 presidential election, met with locals of Feydhoo, Addu City on Sunday, November 6.
While speaking, the former President emphasized on various developmental initiatives in the atoll during his presidency. He further criticized the current administration for its relative inaction in the atoll in terms of development projects.
The former head of the state further highlighted further setbacks the atoll faces in terms of tourism development. According to Yameen, notable tourist properties in the atoll; Shangri-La and Canareef Resort are further down geographically, and away from Addu City mainland.
The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) leader had directed criticism specifically to current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, lambasting his administration for their development and subsequent indifference towards maintaining Addu Equatorial Village; which was developed ahead of a SAARC Summit held in the Maldives.
The village was transformed into a hospital during Yameen's presidency.
Speaking in the same tone, former President Yameen had criticized Solih's administration for its apparent shortcomings in management infrastructural development and urbanization projects across the country. He claimed president Solih was falling short on his pledges, and his affirmation to introduce 8,000 tourist beds in Boduthiladhunmathi while his presidency has entered the final year, was a poorly conceived trajectory.
During the campaign rally at Feydhoo, the former President touched on several topics including current health sector hindrances. He specifically pointed out to lack of professionals at Dharumavantha Hospital despite adequate training programs producing skilled personnel.
