Maldives on Friday formally established diplomatic ties with the Republic of Rwanda.
The two countries released a Joint Communiqué which was signed at a ceremony held at the Rwandan Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York.
The Joint Communiqué was signed by Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN Thilmeeza Hussain and Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the UN Valentine Rugwabiza.
Establishing and nurturing relationships with every country that respects friendship is a key priority of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's foreign policy.
Including Rwanda, Maldives currently maintains diplomatic relations with 172 countries.
Rwanda is a Commonwealth member and is scheduled to host the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) in 2020 at its capital Kigali.
