Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has denied the rumors of Russian national carrier Aeroflot's supposed plan on halting flight operations to the Maldives.

The rumors floated less than a month since the airline commenced its direct flight operations to the island nation.

Reports of Aeroflot's suspension of its Maldivian operations started making rounds after it suspended direct flight operations to neighboring Sri Lanka.

The airline decided to discontinue its operations to Sri Lanka after one of its flights was grounded by Lankan authorities.

Aeroflot confirms that the flight will remain under Sri Lankan authority until June 16, and that it was detained through a court order.

Apart from flight operation suspension, Aeroflot discontinued its airfare sales to Sri Lanka following the measures by Lankan authorities.

The stiff between the airline and Sri Lanka prompted reports that Aeroflot will be suspending its flights to the Maldives next.

However, MACL quashed the reports immediately and its General Manager, Corporation Communications Hassan Areef confirmed that the flights between Maldives and Russia will continued as per schedule.

Areef clarified that there were no issues between both the Maldivian authorities and the Russian carrier.

Russia's Aeroflot recommenced its operations after a hiatus in March following its conflict with Ukraine.
