Today, a friendship run was held on the Sinamalé Bridge to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between China and Maldives.
Over than 300 people participated in the run held on the Chinese-aided Sinamalé Bridge, including the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, Wang Lixin, officials from ministries, members of the Malé City Council, members of parliament, university students and Chinese workers.
At the event, H.E. Wang Lixin said that many activities have been planned to mark the 50th anniversary of Maldives-China relations.
Many NGO's including Bike Maldives, Villijoali and the Association Of People With Disability (MAPD) also participated in the event.
The youngest participant was an 18-month-old child. Describing that as a touching moment, the Ambassador said it shows that people wholeheartedly accept the relationship between China and Maldives.
Lixin said that China-Maldives relations have shown the world exemplary friendship by providing assistance at all times.
"In recent years, this relationship has led to many achievements, including remarkable work in the construction sector. The Sinamalé Bridge is a landmark project that shows the closeness of the two countries. The bridge will carry forward China-Maldives relations for generations, she said.
The Ambassador highlighted that Velana International Airport development and social housing projects will prove to be beneficial for the people of Maldives.
A ceremony was held on 22 October to mark the 50th anniversary of China-Maldives bilateral relations. The Ambassador presented a Golden Jubilee plaque to Maldives during the ceremony.
