Tug boat from Sri Lanka to be brought to Maldives to re-float the aground bulk carrier in Kaafu Atoll, Maldives.

Navio Amaryllis, the bulk carrier operating under the Panama flag, ran aground in Rasfaree reef in Kaafu Atoll on Thursday afternoon. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had said they were working with local authorities and the owner of the boat to re-float the boat.

MNDF has said on Saturday that Antarc Maldives has been hired as Navio Amaryllis' agent in Maldives. They also said a tug boat from Sri Lanka will reach Maldives by Monday to work on refloating the bulk carrier.

The salvage will be carried out under the instructions of the Coast Guard, MNDF said.

Navio Amaryllis is 189.99 meter (623.23 feet) long with a carrying capacity of 58,735 tons.

The accident happened due to engine failure.

When the ship run aground it had a crew of 19 Filipinos, all of whom are safe.
