Maldives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Romania on Friday to establish a consultation and cooperation mechanism.
While Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid signed the agreement on behalf of Maldives, Foreign Minister Teodore Melescanu signed from Romania.
Moreover, Minister Shahid met with Deputy Prime Minister for Romania's Strategic Partnerships' Implementation, Ana Birchall.
During the meeting held at the Victoria Palace, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, both diplomats discussed existing bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation
Maldivian delegation came to Romania for a four-day long official visit to hold discussions on increasing cooperation between the two countries and explore new areas of common interest.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fathimath Razana.
Romania currently holds the presidency for the Council of the European Union.
This November, the two countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
