Opposition coalition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) unveiled plans to turn Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu, the most populated island in Northern Maldives into a city.

While speaking at the ceremony held in Kulhudhuhfushi, on the campaign trail by the opposition coalition, Ibu recalled the plans made by the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)-led government to develop the island. He guaranteed the implementation of these projects, should the opposition coalition come into power.

Staying in alignment with the manifesto of the opposition coalition, Ibu pledged to develop one main island in every major area of the Maldives. In this regard, he revealed plans to make Kulhudhuffushi the 'Urban Centre' of the Northern region of Maldives.

According to Ibu, the regional hospital catering to the 9,000 people of Kulhudhuffushi will be transformed into a tertiary hospital introducing quality medical services.

Highlighting the condition of the 160-row houses built by the previous government as a solution to the housing issue of Kulhudhuffushi, Ibu pledged the reinstatement and issuing of these houses to the people in need, should he win the upcoming elections. He further vowed to provide land to all people faced with the housing issue on the island.

"After researching the availability of land and making flats available, I will implement instalment payments which will help the individuals gain full ownership of the land", said Ibu.

Ibu further vowed the availing of tax cuts from every goods carrier that docks at the island port. Adding to this, he reported having plans to build a business hub on the west side of Kulhudhuffushi as well.

He further noted the vast amount of barren land in Kulhudhuffushi and asserted the introduction and implementation of the projects to build city hotels on the island.
