Maldivian is purchasing two more ATR aircrafts.

In a post made on social media X yesterday, Maldivian announced that they have placed an order for 2 new ATR 42-600 aircrafts at the ongoing Singapore Airshow.

The aircrafts are expected to be delivered by the end of the year.

Maldivian said that with the addition of these two new aircrafts, the airline's fleet will include 7 ATR brand aircrafts.

Currently, the airline uses three ATR aircrafts in their flights. They have previously ordered two ATR aircrafts in last September.

ATR company posted on X about the addition of their aircrafts to the Maldivian fleet, stating that this would facilitate environmentally friendly, modern services from the airline.

On January 9, Island Aviation also announced to rent a Boeing 787-8 aircraft for a period of 6 years. This flight has a passenger capacity of 250 seats.

Earlier, in December 2023, the company had announced that they were seeking a wide body aircraft. At the time, they were looking for an Airbus A330-220 aircraft.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has also previously announced that within the next two months, Maldivian will be getting two wide body aircrafts and commencing flights to seven new destinations.

Wide body aircrafts can carry 275 passengers per trip, and can conduct direct flights to further destinations.

As of now, Maldivian fleet has 25 aircrafts. This includes an Airbus A320 aircraft, 3 ATR aircrafts, 10 Dash 8 aircrafts and 11 Twin Otter seaplanes.
