Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition candidate and Malé City mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been elected as the president of Maldives for the next five years.

Dr. Muizzu's victory celebrations will be held tonight at Social Centre.

Efforts were made last night to hold Dr. Muizzu's victory celebrations in the Artificial Beach area. However, the event was postponed to tonight due to bad weather conditions and heavy rains in Malé last night.

According to PPM, the president-elect will meet with residents tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Social Centre.

"We invite all Maldivian citizens," the campaign team said.

Dr. Muizzu, won Saturday's presidential election with 54 percent of the votes. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received 46 percent of the vote.

With his victory in the presidential election, Dr. Muizzu held his first press conference on Saturday night. The meeting was attended by his running mate Hussain Mohamed Lateef and many others in the PPM/PNC leadership.

"It's time for everyone to unite," Dr. Muizzu said at the press conference. “The interest of the country is much bigger than personal motives, and everyone should prioritize peace. To bring stability to the country, everyone must put unity over personal interests," he said.

On the same night, Dr. Muizzu promised to bring peace to the country.
