WAMCO announces waste collection schedule for Ramadan

The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced its waste collection schedule for Ramadan this year.

WAMCO will follow this schedule throughout the month of Ramadan as well as the first seven days of Shawwal, which is the month that follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar.

During this period, the corporation’s waste transfer centers will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and again from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day except for Fridays.

The centers will operate from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and again from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays.

WAMCO’s corporate and regional offices will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every day except for public holidays.

Malé City Waste Collection Hours:

- Perishable waste from residences: 8:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

- Non-perishable waste from residences: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Vilimalé:

- Waste from residences: 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Hulhumalé:

- Waste from residences: 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

WAMCO will also collect waste from Hiya Flats at Hulhumalé Second Phase from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Saturday through Thursday, and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and again from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Friday.

Waste increases significantly during Ramadan every year. WAMCO previously said it collects between 120 and 140 tons of waste daily during the month.
