Ensis Fisheries Maldives' canned "Mas-huni" became a hit among the visitors of the Seafood Expo North America.

The expo was held from March 12 to 14 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

The company’s General Manager, Hussain Afeef, said they were participating in the exhibition to promote Ensis products in the US market, seek trade opportunities, and expand their product portfolio in the market

Speaking about the warm feedback from attendees, Ensis Fisheries said it showcased a wide variety of its Enzi brand canned products at the exhibition, including dried fish and grilled fish liver.

Out of all the products it showcased, Ensis Fisheries said that its canned Mas-huni was the best received, with many attendees highlighting its unique taste.

The Seafood Expo North America is held annually in March and attracts fish exporters, canneries, and other stakeholders in the fisheries industry, who exhibit their products and services to seek potential business opportunities. This is the second time the expo has been held after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Maldivian fish exporters and businesses in the fishing industry participate in the event every year alongside the Maldives Fisheries Promotion Board and Maldives Seafood Processors and Exporters Association (MSPEA).

The Maldives contingent is using the theme "Maldives Tuna: The World’s Most Sustainable Fish" at this year’s expo. This is a nod to the pole and line method of fishing used in the Maldives, which is considered the most environmentally sustainable fishing method.

Mas-huni is a local breakfast made from grated coconut and fish, mixed together with onions, chili, and lime. It is a popular dish amongst visiting tourists and locals alike, and a quintessential example of the simplicity of the local cuisine.
