Male' City Council has unveiled illustrations depicting the planned development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the outer most road of Male'.

The council released four photographs via Twitter showing the proposed changes in the route. The proposed development features date palms, a plant not native to Maldives, lined alongside the harbour sidewalks.

As part of the development work, the palm trees have been planted from one end of the road to the other on the southern side of the city. A low wall was built around the trunk of the trees as well.

The photographs indicate flowering plants will be planted near the trunks of the palms.

The council had previously said that the decision to plant palm trees on the road was taken after consulting experts in the field.

Details of the cost of the work have not been disclosed yet. However, the palm trees were open to bid by the council and bought afterwards.

As part of the program by Male' City Council to plant 100,000 plants in Male, efforts have been made at several points in the year to plant more trees in parks and alongside roads as well. Mango trees were planted in Ameenee Magu in the middle of the year under this program.

Male' City Council has also opened a plant shop in the carnival area of Male'.
