This victory marks Akhyar's first national singles champion title.
Akhyar Ahmad Khalid has clinched the title of men's singles champion at the national table tennis championship, defeating the most successful player in the tournament Moosa Munsif Ahmed in the final.
Munsif, a highly successful player with 11 national tournament trophies, entered the championship after securing first place in both the national ranking tournament and the Association Cup.
He had previously defeated Akhyar in the national rankings and won the Association Cup by overcoming Sri Lankan player Rasika Manoj.
Despite his impressive track record, Munsif faced a third consecutive defeat in the national tournament final, losing 4-3 in a best-of-seven match after a competitive play.
This victory marks Akhyar's first national singles champion title.
Akhyar has also won the Under-19 singles title by defeating Zeek Hassan Latheef.
In the mixed doubles open category, Fathimath Dheema Ali and Akhyar advanced to the final but were defeated by Munsif and Aishath Rafa Nazim, who claimed the title.
