Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has announced the islands that will organize the upcoming Eid-Al-Adha celebrations at national level.

The Ministry has decided on three islands; Raa atoll Ungoofaaru, Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo and Gaafu Alif atoll Vilin'gili after reviewing the proposals submitted by various islands.

The criteria assessed by the Ministry in selecting the islands were the activities organized for Eid, local council expenditure on proposed activities and complementary activities carried out by the island.

The Ministry stated that during the selection process, priority was given to ensure that one island from each of the northern, southern, and central regions of the Maldives was chosen to host Eid celebrations.

The day of Hajj falls on June 16 this year, with Eid-Al-Adha following the day after, on June 17. Together with the day of Hajj, Eid, and an additional three days on the occasion of Eid, June 16 through June 22 have been determined as government holidays.
