HDC announced last year that it aims to implement projects worth upto 6.5 million (MVR 100 million) in Urban Isles.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has opened the Channel Bridge in the tourism zone of Hulhumalé 2 and begun constructing an artificial beach in the area.
While the company has not yet released details of the work, it has shared videos of the progress on social media platform X.
The videos show excavation work under the bridge connecting Hulhumalé 2 and Urban Isle, allowing water to flow underneath.
The artificial beach is being built in the northernmost area of Hulhumalé 2. HDC's video also shows the commencement of physical work in this area.
HDC announced last year that it aims to implement projects worth between USD 4.9 million (MVR 76 million) and USD 6.5 million (MVR 100 million) in Urban Isles.
A 100,000 square meter tourism zone has been allocated for the development of Urban Isle in Hulhumalé 2, including mid-range tourist facilities and luxurious villas. A cinema, shopping mall, and sports and entertainment facilities are also planned.
Serviced apartments will range from one-bedroom to four-bedroom units, with dedicated vehicle parking spaces.
The previous government announced the construction of apartments and guest houses in the area.
