Maldives Wave, popular for their sale of watches in the capital city of Maldives, has had one of their companies come under investigation for fraudulently sourcing money from clients after promising to deliver them vehicles.
According to a media official from Maldives Police Service (MPS), they had received a complaint this month that the Maldives Wave International company had fraudulently taken money from several people after having promised to deliver vehicles.
Police have asked for cooperation from the public to identify any more people who have had their funds stolen by Maldives Wave International, requesting that details be provided to the Economic Crime Department by contacting +960 979-0048.
So far, investigations have revealed that Maldives Wave International has fraudulently taken about MVR 50 million from various clients for the buying and delivering of cars. However, some people who have payed for their vehicles have recently taken to social media with their complaints due to delays as the cars have not been delivered as promised.
The Maldives Wave watches were first launched four years ago and took the market by storm as exclusive collectible timepieces inspired by the culture and heritage of Maldives. Although they were quick to gain popularity and were very active on social media with influencer collaborations, special sales and giveaways for a time, the company's Instagram page has not been updated for two months.
