Maldives and United State of America (USA) on Tuesday, signed a Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid signed the MoU on behalf of Maldives and US Ambassador to Maldives Alaina Teplitz signed from the US.

Meanwhile, DOAG was signed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman on behalf of the US Agency for International Development.

The MoU aims to promote mutual understanding between the two countries by facilitating knowledge exchange through educational activities. This agreement extended the Fulbright Exchange Programme Agreement signed in 2003 for a further five years.

Through the DOAG, the US government commits USD 3 million dollars to Maldives for the purpose of increasing the resilience of communities and individuals in driving inclusive and sustainable development.

The signing ceremony, held at the Foreign Ministry, was attended by senior officials from the ministry as well as officials of the Embassy of the United States of America based in Colombo.
