Kaafu Atoll generates highest Green Tax revenue in January

Ministry of Finance, on Monday, revealed that Kaafu Atoll generated the highest proportion of Green Tax out of the MVR 78.2 million which was recovered by the state in January 2019.

The Finance Ministry's report revealed that Kaafu Atoll made a total of MVR 28.3 million which amounts to 36 percent of January's Green Tax.

In addition to multiple resorts, several islands with successful guesthouse businesses are located in Kaafu Atoll, including the booming areas of Maafushi, Thulusdhoo and Dhiffushi.

The remaining atolls generated Green Tax revenues as follows:

Alifu Dhaalu Atoll – MVR 9.3 million

Alifu Alifu Atoll – MVR 6.6 million

Baa Atoll – MVR 6.4 million

Lhaviyani Atoll – MVR 4.8 million

Raa Atoll – MVR 3.8 million

Dhaalu Atoll – MVR 3.4 million

Noonu Atoll – MVR 2.9 million

Vaavu Atoll – MVR 1.5 million

Gaafu Alifu Atoll – MVR 1.4 million

Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – MVR 1.4 million

Addu Atoll – MVR 1.3 million

Safaris and liveaboards generated MVR 2.8 million as Green Tax during the month of January.

While Green Tax raked in MVR MVR 98.2 million by March 2, the state estimates that total figures for 2019 will reach MVR 892.7 million.
