Three individuals had been kidnapped and held hostage inside a Malé City residence.
Maldives Police Service has confirmed that they received reports of a possible kidnapping and hostage situation at a residence on Abadhah Ufaa Magu, Henveiru. In response, authorities conducted a forceful inspection by entering the residence.
Police have confirmed that three local men were held hostage during the incident and were subjected to varying degrees of assault. Following their rescue, all three individuals were transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to receive medical attention.
Police also said that a local man and a minor had been arrested for suspected involvement in the case.
While the motive behind the kidnapping is unclear so far, the arrested male was put in remand and the minor had been handed over to their family.
Local authorities confirmed that the prime suspect of the case was given a 15-day remand from Criminal Court on Sunday, June 18.
It has been revealed that the kidnapping of the individuals is related to drugs, although specific details about the case remain uncertain at this time.
