BML has expanded its payment options and introduced WeChat Pay into Maldives, paving the path for one billion users of the Chinese app to exchange online payments with customers based anywhere in Maldives.
Bank of Maldives has introduced the popular Chinese payment platform, Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay) to Maldives as a payment method on the bank's point-of-sale (POS) terminal network.
This service was launched with merchants at duty-free shopping at the Velana International Airport (VIA). While this app now allows these businesses to accept QR payments, this service was previously only available through the BML gateway.
“We have started the rollout of WeChat Pay at merchants at Velana International Airport’s duty-free shopping. By accepting WeChat Pay on the Bank’s POS network, we are paving the way for more than 1 billion active users of the Weixin & WeChat platform to make payments at merchants across Maldives. Our aim is to continually enhance the payment experience for our customers and merchants. Today’s announcement means we are now able to offer our customers the choice and convenience to choose their preferred way to pay,” said Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking, Moosa Nimal.
BML is the leading provider of merchant payment solutions in the country while also providing a wide range of products and services suited for different business segments and customer preferences.
In addition to debit and credit card issued by major companies around the world such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Union Pay, the bank also accepts payments through digital wallets such as BML Pay, Ali Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
While merchants are now able to receive payments from any location online through the POS terminals and the Merchant Portal, this service further allows customers to send payment requests, review payment transactions and manage online stores as well.
