The Presidential Jetty; Izzudheen Faalan, or more commonly known as Jetty No. 1 in Male' has been closed for renovations following dilapidated conditions.
The Jetty is being renovated by state-owned Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which constructed the structure in 2015. Maintenance work of the Jetty is also undertaken by the company.
In order to commence repair works, MTCC had closed off the area a few days ago.
An MTCC official said that one part of the jetty was badly damaged due to repairs not being carried out for a long period of time. Other areas of the jetty need to be repaired as well, he said.
"For safety reasons, the area has been closed off," he said.
MTCC has not yet announced a date for the reopening of the jetty following the repair work.
The jetty has undergone repairs twice since it first initially opened. The jetty was last repaired in 2017.
The jetty was officially opened on the 50th anniversary of Maldives' independence on July 26, 2015.
