President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government has paved the way for justice putting aside political differences.
Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations held last night, the President said four years ago, citizens wanted the state to be based on a constitutional framework that would restore governance to justice and accountability.
The President said the state has brought the basics of governance within the framework of the Constitution and given them the space to play their role in a democratic environment.
The legal framework needed to restore lost confidence in the judiciary has been changed and the Supreme Court has been given the opportunity to work independently, he said.
"It should not be expected that all the rules of a compassionate and just state will be fulfilled in just four years. The biggest fact that has become clear is that the hope of returning Maldives to the path of justice has increased tremendously in this time," President Solih said.
President Solih noted that political stability is being brought back to the Maldives after many years.
He also said that the differences in treatment among the people based on their political stance have been a major concern among citizens in the past.
However, President Solih said that political discrimination has become a thing of the past and people residing in different islands now get services equally without discrimination.
"Compared to the past, Maldives is now much safer and that feeling of safety is now prevalent in the society. After many years, political stability is being brought to Maldives," he said.
The President said the secret of all the successes the country has achieved is the current stability. If everyone works together towards the same goal, the obstacles will be overcome and a happier and brighter tomorrow will be achieved, he said.
