A man being held on remand until the end of his trial died on Monday.
Maldives Correctional Service Spokesperson Ahmed Lugman told Mihaaru that the 57 year old Adam Ali died in the remand centre in the capital Male.
According to Lugman, Adam lost consiousness around 8.00am on Monday while in his cell. He was rushed to the state run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) but he was not responding, lugman added.
"Doctors confirmed his death. He was buried after Isha prayers on Monday," he added.
Correctional service refused to comment on the charges Adam was facing.
However, Mihaaru understands that he was charged with child abuse.
The court had ordered him to be kept in remand until the end of the trial.
Meanwhile, a man had died while in police custody late last month.
