Japan grants MVR 40 million to Maldives as foreign aid

The Government of Japan has agreed to grant MVR 40 million to Maldives to reduce the damage to the marine environment from oil spillage.

The Japanese Ambassador to Maldives Kazumi Endo, signed the foreign aid agreement with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, at a special event that was held in the ministry on Tuesday.

Japan has been a large aid donor to Maldives for a long period of time. The Japanese Government provided a grant assistance of USD 2.7 million in order to improve the health sector of Maldives on June 2018.

In addition, Japan provided another grant of USD 2.2 million for the development of the social sector of the country. Furthermore, Japan provided USD 5.4 million to the Maldives on 2016.

In 2014, Japan spent USD 3.3 million to move the transmission antenna field of the state radio channel, ‘Dhivehi Raajjege Adu’, to Thilafushi in Kaafu Atoll.
