Maldivian has announced the acquisition of an additional aircraft.

Island Aviation, which operates the national airline, Maldivian, said in an announcement that it was seeking to lease a 250 seat Boeing 787-8 aircraft for six years.

Earlier on December 31, Island Aviation had announced the acquisition of a wide-body aircraft, seeking an Airbus A330-220 aircraft for a period of five years.

Interested parties are requested to submit their bids before January 25.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen had earlier announced that two wide-body aircraft would be brought to the airline within the next six months, and flights to seven new destinations would begin. Wide-body aircrafts can carry up to 275 passengers at a time and can travel directly to long-distance destinations.

Currently, the airline has 14 aircraft in its fleet, which includes one Airbus A320 and two ATR aircraft. The rest are Dash aircrafts. Only Airbus A320s are used for international flights.
