The Housing Ministry on Wednesday began the process of handing over the registry of land to individuals who were allocated land plots under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme launched by the previous government.
Registration and land handover to the allottees was halted after the first round of the presidential elections, following former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration processing it up to a certain point.
However, an announcement from the Housing Ministry stated that individuals who have not yet received the land agreement and registry have commenced signing the agreement, and the handover process began yesterday.
The Housing Ministry said that individuals scheduled to sign the agreement will be contacted via message and informed about the date, time, and place of attendance.
The ministry has stated that if any errors are found in the registration and agreements awarded so far, they will be amended once reported to the Ministry.
Under the previous government's Binveriyaa scheme, 9,001 plots were allotted in Hulhumalé 2, Hulhumalé 3, Gulhifalhu, and Giraivaru Falhu in the first round, and registrations were issued to some of the recipients.
In addition to these land plots, there are 13,000 people eligible for flats on the permanent list of the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme announced by the previous government. The decision to allocate 4,000 flats from already developed units sparked public discontent and was halted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after receiving more than 7,000 complaints.
The commission is accessing the Binveriyaa and Gedhoruveriyaa submission portal and investigating the issues. ACC members have stated that, so far, many suspicions have been found in the process.
