Founder of Sun Group and President of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, has expressed his belief that the Maldives has achieved stability over the past five years under the presidency of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Siyam, who has endorsed President Solih for the upcoming presidential elections and formed a coalition with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), took to Twitter to express his belief that the country's judiciary has remained independent from political influence under President Solih's administration.
Siyam, who is also the MP for Dhaalu atoll Meedhoo, praised President Solih for his leadership, highlighting that he did not replace the Vice President or key cabinet ministers during his tenure. Siyam also mentioned that tourist arrivals to the Maldives reached record numbers under President Solih's administration.
"President Solih's efficient governance, patience, and intelligence have brought prosperity to families," Siyam said.
While Siyam had previously announced his intention to run in the presidential elections, he later decided against it, citing it as not the most opportune time for such a decision. Instead, he formed an alliance with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Meanwhile, reports emerged stating that the opposition coalition consisting of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC) sought to form an alliance with Maldives Development Alliance (MDA). However, MDA decided against this and instead announced their commitment to work towards securing a second term for President Solih.
In addition to MDA, Adaalath Party has entered into a coalition with MDP for the upcoming election. Other political parties have announced their intention to nominate their own candidates for the presidential election.
