An Indian man has gone missing after a fire broke out on the 'Aagalaa' boat that travels between Hithadhoo in Addu City and Malé.
According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), they received reports of the incident at around 2:45 a.m. last night.
The boat was travelling from Addu to Malé. It was near Meemu atoll Thuvaru when the incident occurred.
The 15 people on board jumped into the sea when the fire started. Everyone has been accounted for except one Indian man, the MNDF said.
MNDF is currently conducting a rescue operation to find the man.
There were five locals, five Indians, and five Bangladeshis on board at the time.
After being rescued, they were taken to the hospital in Meemu atoll Muli to be treated, MNDF said.
The boat completely burned down, and it had sunk into the ocean by 8:20 a.m. on Monday.
