The current focus was to finish contact tracing work as soon as possible, Addu Emergency Operation Center (AEOC) said on Saturday, after restrictive measures were placed following several positive cases of COVID-19 in the city.

Hulhumeedhoo, separated by sea, was brought to monitored status on Thursday after a COVID case was found. The rest of the wards started being monitored on Saturday after a COVID positive case was found in Feydhoo.

Thirteen people have tested positive in Hulhumeedhoo so far. The initial positive case was a person working on a boat that travels between Male' and Addu

CEO of Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) Dr. Mohamed Solih said during a press briefing by AEOC that contact tracing was going at a fast rate in both Hulhumeedhoo and the rest of Addu.

"This moment is when we have to complete contact tracing as soon as possible to ensure the disease does not spread," Dr. Solhi said.

He requested everyone to self-quarantine and inform AEOC if they suspect they might be a direct contact. He also urged everyone to test themselves for COVID if they start showing symptoms.

There are two Flu Clinics in Addu that test people for COVID; one in Hulhumeedhoo and one is Hithadhoo. The Hithadhoo Flu Clinic was moved to the former Regional Hospital on Saturday evening in order to limit the contact AEH staff would have with potential COVID patients.

Dr. Solih encouraged everyone to go to the hospital for essential reasons only. He said that changes will have to be brought to services provided at the hospital and details will be released soon.

Even though there are restrictions in Addu right now, they are not as strict as the ones placed in February this year. People are encouraged not to travel from one ward to the other, unless it was for essential purposes.
