The Maldivian government, on Thursday, sent off 200 Bangladeshi nationals back to their home country.
The aforementioned expatriates, including undocumented migrants and workers who lost their jobs due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, were repatriated on a flight operated by the national airline Maldivian.
Maldivian revealed that Thursday’s flight would land in Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka.
Another batch of expats were also repatriated on a flight from Malé to Bangladesh on September 16. Till date, the state has facilitated the repatriation of over 8,000 migrant workers.
In July, Minister of Economic Affairs Fayyaz Ismail announced that 20,000 undocumented workers will be sent back to their home countries by the end of 2020.
