Maldives retains honor of strongest passport-holder in the region for fourth year in a row

Climbing up nine ranks, Maldives has once again retained the honor of possessing the most powerful passport in the region, securing a notable spot in the 52nd position.

Climbing up nine ranks, Maldives has once again retained the honor of possessing the most powerful passport in the region.

The Henley Passport Index which reviews the visa-free access of passports to different countries had credited Maldives on holding the most powerful passport in the region over the past three years.

The global index released this year observed Maldives rising up nine ranks from 2023 to secure a commendable spot in the 52nd position.

Maldives' position this year remains seven ranks higher than China, who were placed on the 59th position of the index.

Maldives currently allows visa-free entry into 94 countries for its passport holders.

The second highest rank on the global passport index from the South Asian region this year was claimed by India, who achieved the 82nd position. Bhutan comes in third, clinching the 87th rank with Sri Lanka following close in the 93rd place. Meanwhile Bangladesh is ranked in the 97th position while Nepal secured the 98th spot and Pakistan, the 100th.

Rising past Japan who were titled the strongest passport holder on a global scale, Singapore has claimed the honor this year with a passport that allows entry into 195 countries without a visa.
