President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised his administration will prioritize Islamic religion and nationalism in governance.

In a statement released on Tuesday, October 17, marking the day Maldives embraced Islam, Muizzu stated that embracing Islam was the most monumental positive change that has come to the Maldives in history.

He further said that the Islamic faith was the root of the Maldivian independence, culture, customs, and heritage.

"Maldives is an example for the rest of world for remaining as a 100 percent Muslim nation over the past decades," Muizzu noted.

The president-elect noted that Maldives faced ideological, economical and social challenges. Muizzu said that the public wished for a 'nation first' approach in addressing all these challenges.

"The new government, expected to assume power on November 17, of the PPM/PNC, inclusive of coalition partners, will prioritize Islamic religion and Maldivian national sovereignty above all," Muizzu stated.

"Our government will uphold the Maldivian name and dignity in the international arena."
