Maldives Police Service, on Tuesday, made two more arrests over the fatal stabbing in Maamendhoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, on Monday night, which resulted in the death of a minor.
With the arrest of the two local males, aged 18 and 25, police have now arrested a total of five suspects over the stabbing.
Police revealed on Tuesday that three men, aged 18, 23 and 27, were apprehended over the matter under a court order.
As per local media reports, the 17-year-old was attacked and killed over a dispute between two island gangs.
News outlet Mihaaru reported that the juvenile was murdered in the second violent altercation which took place on Maamendhoo on Monday night, in retaliation for a fight in which the minor and his brother had participated in.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed stated that further investigation into the matter would be led by the Serious Organised Crime Department of Crime Investigation Command and that a team would be deployed to Maamendhoo on Tuesday.
The commissioner urged the residents of Maamendhoo to offer full cooperation to the police as they conduct the investigation.
