The Bank of Maldives has enabled card payments for Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus routes in Malé operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The bank said passengers using the RTL Malé City bus networks can now pay for fares using their Mastercard and Visa cards, as well as other cards issued by the bank.

While card payment service has been introduced, bus and ferry tickets are available for purchase on the RTL mobile application.

"Our more than 300,000 customers can now use their BML debit or credit cards to make top-and-go payments easily and securely on the RTL network," BML CEO Karl Stumke said about the contactless payment option for the service. "We will also continue to collaborate with our partners to introduce additional payment methods," he added.

Commenting on this milestone, MTCC CEO Adam Azim stated, "we are grateful to our partners BML and Mastercard for the immense support and assistance provided in the integration of contactless Mastercard and Visa debit and credit card payments into our RTL bus service. This is an essential step for us in making our service more easily accessible and convenient to the public."

Mastercard is currently working towards simplifying daily commutes in several cities around the globe. The cash card service said that as open loop becomes the most widely adopted payment method across smart cities globally, digital integration was necessary.

MTCC assured continued efforts to provide excellent service “that is enriched with a wide array of convenient options” and by enhancing the customer experience.
