Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath have been released from prison following presidential pardon.
The two were convicted of corruption related to MMPRC.
It has been learned that both Adeeb and Ziyath were released under the Pardon and Sentence Reduction Act, in accordance with Article 115(s) of the Maldives Constitution, at the discretion of the President.
Under the Pardon and Sentence Reduction Act, the president has the discretion to reduce sentences or pardon convicts, as well as provide leniencies for offenses for which pardoning is not allowed.
